Is a solar cover or solar blanket worth the price? Well, when you consider that they are very inexpensive, we can definitely say you should use a solar cover to keep pool water warm. You could definitely have your pool contractor from Imperial Pools, Inc. in Champaign, Illinois add a pool water heater but if you’re just looking to warm it up for a bit, a solar blanket or cover is ideal.

Solar covers or blankets retain heat when the sun goes down. They can also raise the water temperature during the heat of the day and the solar cover “traps” it and helps keep the water warmer, longer. Buying a solar cover or blanket that fits your entire pool is necessary to work as it should. You will want it to cover the entire pool and have a bit of overlap on the sides.

If you invest in a solar cover or solar blanket, make sure you use it regularly if you want to reap the benefits. If you’re not going to use it for a while, talk with us about investing in a rolling system to manually (or electronically) roll and unroll the blanket when not in use. If you don’t want to do that you can remove it from the pool, dry it thoroughly and store it in the bag it came in.

Get the most out of your solar blanket or cover investment by removing it when the pool water is being shocked, aka super chlorinated, or otherwise being chemically treated.

This sounds odd, but the sun can damage your solar cover. When the cover is on the roller, protect it from the sun as it will lose its pliability if exposed to direct sunlight for too long. The solar cover will not last forever, but with proper care you can expect it to last at least a half a dozen years.
