Summer is here, and that means it’s time for swimming, outdoor fun, pool parties and above all — swimming pool safety. No family wants to become a statistic and have a child get injured in the swimming pool so the swimming pool contractors in Decatur, IL at Imperial Pools, Inc put together this summer pool safety: a guide for parents that will help act as a refresher if you’re a long time pool owner, or offer insight for new pool owners.
It is always important to have steps in place to keep children safe in the pool. Many of these tips are obvious, but that doesn’t mean they don’t warrant a reminder so you can keep your pool as safe as it can be.
Summer pool safety: A guide for parents
Keep these tips in mind:
- Make sure your children know how to swim. Learning how to swim is one of the most important things a parent or guardian can do to keep children safe around the pool.
- Children should NEVER be left unattended. Even if your child can swim, this is no free pass to let your child be alone in the water, EVER. Keep an eye on them at all times. Drownings happen quickly and quietly, remain vigilant.
- A fence around your swimming pool will probably be a law where you live and even if it’s not a fence keeps children out of the pool. The fence needs to be high enough to keep children out, made of material that a child can’t climb (a chain link fence is not ideal) and have a self-closing, self-latching gate.
- When the pool is not being used, keep toys out of the water when they’re not in use to help prevent accidents.
- CPR can save lives in the event of a drowning accident. Take a CPR class to learn how to perform CPR on children and adults.
- You need to have Rules Of The Pool and they need to be enforced at all times. Everyone who uses the pool needs to know them and obey them. Some rules to consider include: not running on the deck, not diving into the shallow end, staying away from drains, NEVER swimming alone.
