Should you get a vinyl liner pool? This is one of the many, many questions the swimming pool contractors from Imperial Pool Builders will ask you to decide when you are in the market and research phases of a swimming pool project for your family. There are three materials from which to choose:

  1. Gunite aka concrete
  2. Fiberglass
  3. Vinyl liner

There are advantages and drawbacks to each style so you want to do your homework to assure you’re getting the pool and the pool building material of your dreams.

Should you get a vinyl liner pool?

Keep in mind that with all of the advantages a vinyl liner pool has, that the liner will need to be replaced every seven to ten years. For most pool owners, though that is a small price to pay for the benefits of a vinyl liner pool. Also, after that many years you will probably be ready for your pool to have a facelift.

  • Vinyl liner pools are a choice for many because of the myriad colors, patterns and styles in which the liner offers. You may choose a plain colored liner, but then you may also be able to see the seams; a pattern hides the seams and adds interest and intrigue to your pool. A patterned or colored liner is more visually appealing and unique. Your pool liner shows your unique flair.
  • If you’re careless with the liner and with pool water chemistry, the liner will need replacement even more quickly than it would if you take care of it properly. That is one of the many reasons pool owners leave the pool chemistry to a professional.
  • Don’t wear sharp objects or toss sharp objects in the pool. If you have pets who will be joining you, make certain they have an easy way to get into and out of the pool without clawing at the sides with their nails. Sharp objects include rings, earrings, other jewelry and some pool toys. In some cases a minor tear can be repaired and may not require a full pool liner replacement, but it will depend on the location and severity of the tear.

When you’re in the pool research mode, consider whether a vinyl liner pool is a viable option for your family.
